BURNING EMBERS or the Poems of a Prisoner
by Winston Michael Whyte
Winston Michael Whyte became the youngest cabinet minister in the British Commonwealth when he was appointed a Senator in Grenada in 1969 and given the portfolio of youth and sports. He resigned in 1974, citing irreconcilable differences with the late Sir Eric Matthew Gairy over the latter's handling of the Black Power crisis.
He returned to parliament as an elected member of the House of Representatives in 1976 and was jailed by the People's Revolutionary Government in 1979 when they seized power in the Eastern Caribbean's first coup d'etat.
It was while in solitary confinement that he found the inspiration and time to write on sheets of toilet paper this moving volume of poetry.
Whyte, who was trained as a journalist, now devotes his time to business activities and serves on the board of many regional and international companies. He resides in his homeland of Grenada and is now working on an historical novel.

WHEN THE COMING WAS SLOW by Vandy C. Thomas
After I reviewed his first anthology published in 2001 entitled “My Way of Poetry”, I came to see the poet in a new light. Vandy Craig Thomas clearly enjoys playing with language and shaping language into poetry to share ideas and feelings.
Poetry lovers will find it comforting that he has maintained that direction in this anthology. “When the Coming was Slow”, is the vessel that takes the reader on an exploration of the soul of the poet. Vandy C. Thomas, has produced yet another masterpiece, in which he has undoubtedly demonstrated that he truly enjoys poems and words for their rhythm and melody as much as for their content. I tip my hat to the poet. - Anthonius St. John
